Printing on paper is so 2012 – 3D printing
One of the things that really stood out at CES 2013 is 3D printers. A favorite topic on the Tech Ranch, 3D printing is becoming main stream.
I reviewed about a dozen different 3D printers over the course of 4 days and can only say one thing – AMAZING. My two favorites are the new Cube (www.cubify.com) and the MakerBot Replicator (www.makerbot.com).
The MakerBot Replicator is a great 3D printer for any business wishing to create prototypes of ideas, molds and much more. A favorite on their website is thingiuniverse, a place that people can upload their designs for others to use. Many categories include art, household, gadgets and even jewelry. By grabbing one of these designs, a person can print a case for their iPad, create a tooth brush holder for your bathroom or print letters for the outside of your business or home.
The Cube is designed for home hobbyists. Coming in at an astounding $1299 retail, you can create objects up to 5.25″ x 5.25″ by 5.25″. Perfect for creating jewelry, toys, household items and much more. The website is full of ideas and has a creative center that allows you to design and print or have them print it for you.
Both companies have great websites and will certainly make your creative juices flow. After checking them out, you will be amazed at what you can “print”. Both companies also include software to create your own projects.
