Steven Bakken is an American politician and radio host born in 1968 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He began his broadcasting career at the tender age of 12 and went on to attend the University of North Dakota.

With a career spanning over 34 years, Bakken gained experience in major radio markets across the country. He returned to his home state of North Dakota and served as the host of “What’s on your mind?” and “Energy Matters” on KFYR 550.

Prior to his political career, Bakken held positions as the business development manager for Larson Engineering and owner of SB Productions. He moved to Bismarck in 2011 and served as the mayor of the city from June 26, 2018, to June 28, 2022.

Outside of politics and broadcasting, Bakken is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys pheasant hunting, fishing for walleye, and breeding and showing his Gordon Setters. When he’s not pursuing his passions, he can be found cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and Minnesota Twins.
