We’ve all done it. You’re bouncing between a dozen tabs, you go to close one, and you click the X on the wrong one. The page you needed is gone. Before you start digging through your browser history, try this one move: Ctrl + Shift + T. The tab you just closed pops right back, right where it was.
The Shortcut
- Windows and Chromebook: Ctrl + Shift + T
- Mac: Cmd (⌘) + Shift + T
- Works in: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox and Brave
Closed a Bunch? Keep Pressing
Each press brings back the next tab you closed, newest first. Closed three tabs by accident? Press it three times and you can rewind your way right back through them.
It Even Works for a Whole Window
If you closed the entire browser window, open your browser again and press the same shortcut. Your last window comes back with its tabs.
Bonus Tip: Find It in Your History
Closed that tab yesterday, or too many tabs ago to rewind? Press Ctrl + H (⌘ + Y on a Mac) to open your browser history. Type a word from the page title in the search box, then click the result to open it again.
