When you’ve got a dozen tabs open, finding the right one can feel like a scavenger hunt. Skip the clicking: hold Ctrl and press a number.

The Shortcut

  • Ctrl + 1 to 8: jump to tabs 1 through 8, counting from the left
  • Ctrl + 9: always jumps to the last tab
  • Mac: use Command (⌘) instead of Ctrl
  • Works in Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox

Bonus Tip: Flip Through Tabs in Order

Ctrl + Tab moves to the next tab, and Ctrl + Shift + Tab goes back one. On a Mac, use ⌘ + Option + → and ⌘ + Option + ←.
