Need a picture of everything on your Mac screen? Press Command + Shift + 3. You’ll hear the camera shutter, and the screenshot lands on your desktop.

The Shortcut

  • ⌘ + Shift + 3: captures the whole screen
  • The screenshot saves to your desktop
  • Click the preview in the corner to draw, crop or share

Bonus Tip: Copy Instead of Saving

Add Control to copy the screenshot instead of saving a file. Control + ⌘ + Shift + 4 lets you drag a box, then paste it into an email or note with ⌘ + V. No desktop clutter.

On Windows?

Press Windows key + Print Screen.
