Need your grocery list out of the way for a minute, but not gone? Press Command + M. The window tucks down into the Dock.

The Shortcut

  • ⌘ + M: minimizes the front window to the Dock
  • Nothing closes, nothing is lost
  • Click it in the Dock to bring it back

Bonus Tip: Close vs. Quit

⌘ + W closes the window you’re looking at, but the app keeps running. ⌘ + Q quits the app completely.
