The Shortcut
- Select the cells first
- Ctrl + Shift + 4: currency format
- Excel calls it Ctrl + Shift + $ (same keys)
- Mac (Google Sheets): ⌘ + Shift + 4
Bonus Tip: Percent Format
Ctrl + Shift + 5 turns decimals like 0.17 into 17%. The 5 key is the one with the % on it.
